Founding
Worldwide African Investment Holding (later renamed Pembani), is founded by Phuthuma Nhleko, Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu, Khaya Ngqula and the now-late Max Maisela.
1995
Afric Oil Is Launched
Pembani launches Afric Oil, with Bheki Shongwe at the helm.
Then Gauteng Premier, Tokyo Sexwale opens the first Afric Oil service station in Weltervreden Park.

Expansion
Pembani Group acquires a controlling stake in Zenex Oil (Pty) Ltd.
1998
A New Dawn
Bheki Shongwe, the first CEO steps down.
Mkhuseli Faku takes over leadership of AfricOil.

Further Expansion
Pembani Group acquires a 20% stake in Engen Limited, which in turn acquires a 45% shareholding in Afric Oil.
